Off Door Handle

Look for these fasteners along the base of the lever then use an allen wrench that fits snugly into the head of the fastener.

Tug on the knob and it will slide right off. Step 4 insert a large flat wrench or putty knife between the trim panel and door and pop off the plastic retaining plugs. Turn each screw holding the knob body. You can usually twist or pry it off with a flathead screwdriver to expose the screws.

On a manual window remove the crank handle by using a screwdriver to pull out the bolt. Slide the cosmetic faceplate away from the door. You should see a tiny slot or hole. Depending on the door handle design the faceplate may be able to slide completely off.

Pull the rose cover off the knob body. The door handle will now slide off. Turn the wrench to remove the fastener then pull the lever away from the door by hand. Some lever handles have hexagonal shaped fasteners that require an allen wrench for removal.

On power windows remove the three door handle screws with a screwdriver and pry out the control switch and unplug it. Locate the hole underneath the doorknob shaft. Push the tip of a narrow screwdriver into the hole. Use a philips head screwdriver to unscrew them.

Remove any screws that are holding the cover plates in place on either side of the door using a flat head screwdriver. Unscrew and pull off the door handle s cover plates. Insert the edge of your screwdriver under the plates and pry them up gently until they pop off then remove them and set them aside. If you don t see a notch and the cover plate is round try turning the plate counterclockwise to remove it.

If not rotate the faceplate until the underlying screws are accessible and use a phillips head screwdriver to remove them. Step 1 unscrew the door lever handle in order to get at the screws that hold the handle to the door you need to expose them by removing the plate that surrounds the lever handle also known as a rose. Some styles of door knob will have another thin slot that requires a small screwdriver to free the cover from the door.
