The thin cribiform plate at the roof of the nose may fracture causing the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes the brain to leak out. However sometimes the bones have been so shortened and whittled away that it is impossible to bring them together without pinching the top of the nose completely. When you remove that point your nose will look wider and you will have an open roof deformity.
